Deep-Dive Biomechanical Analysis


​I don't just tell you 'yes' or 'no.' I use digital analysis to show you exactly why a saddle fits or fails. In this example, I identified that the panels were too straight and the channel narrowed dangerously behind the tree points (yellow arrow), which would cause pressure on the horse's spine.
Case Study: The 17" PJ Premiere
This analysis shows why a saddle that "looks fine" can actually cause damage.
  • Tree Rails (Blue Line): The panels are too straight for this horse's back shape, creating a "bridging" effect where the saddle floats over the middle of the back.
  • Panel Angle (Red Lines): The angle is too steep. As shown by the red X's, the panels would only contact the horse on the outer edges, creating severe pressure points while the inner panel hovers above the muscle.
  • Channel Width (Yellow Arrow): The channel narrows dangerously behind the tree points, pinching the spine where it needs the most clearance.

The Fitting Protocol

The Tool Kit​
You will need these simple tools to capture your horse's shape:
  • Flexible Curve: A 24-inch (60cm) architectural ruler.
  • Large Paper: 18x24 inches (or a file folder).
  • Marker: Black Sharpie or dark pen.
  • Chalk/Tape: To mark the scapula (shoulder blade) for reference. ​
Helpful:
  • Assistant: A friend to hold the horse makes this much easier! ​
  • Video Call Capabilities used during tracing process to ensure we have what we need and to answer any questions/ see your horse live! 
  • Instructions for doing back tracings are linked to the google form. 
Required Photos​
We need clear visuals to diagnose the fit. Please provide:
  • Conformation Shots: Full body from each side (on level ground).
  • The "Rear" View: Photo from the rear (on a mounting block if your horse is tall). (examples will be given inside the form)
  • Saddle On: If you have a saddle that we are to review, show side view, and rear view with the saddle lightly girthed up (no pad).
  • Rider on Board: A photo of you seated in the saddle to check balance. ​
The Consultation
​Once I have your data, we meet via Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
  • Screen Sharing: I will put your photos and tracings on screen to show you exactly what I see.
  • The Plan: We will discuss whether your current saddle can be adjusted, or start a search for a new one.
